#1  Summer Activities overview – We’ve been busy with Energy/Alt Plastic Pop Ups, birdwalks, conferences, tours, and beach cleanups! Thank you to everyone who volunteered for activities!

 

#2  Butterfly WayStation update + sign plans (Gretchen Swarr) – milkweed has been planted successfully in the Village Garden Plots and Pollinator Garden. Gretchen ordered the sign and will let us know when it’s time to install

Action:

  • Install WayStation Sign (SM+GW)

 

#3  Scope 3 Greenhouse Gas emissions discussion. We addressed the complexities of calculating Scope 3 emissions and the additional staff it requires. SIMAP software is available to calculate 15 categories of WHOI’s Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions. For the demo, please visit: https://unhsimap.org/home

#4  Compost Volunteers needed for Events – Wednesday, Sept 27. HR will offer a project#

Action:

  • Solicit Tech Staff volunteer (GW) – Result: no one is available.

 

 #5 Beach Clean-up Shore Lab - Monthly – We need Volunteers to join the leaders! STF is partnering with T3C + WHOI neighbors to clean up the beach on the first Thursday of each month at noon. Meet at Gate by Shore Lab. Leaders for Beach Cleanups include:

  • Special one on Wednesday, May 24 with Salient – Ray Schmidt spinoff Company
  • August 3 – Alex Kinsella leader
  • Sept 7- Communications Dept
  • Oct 5 – Development and PSG Equity (possibly)

Action:

  • Confirm Sept 7 Comms Dept and PSG Development (DP+SM)

 

#6  CEC final Energy Zoom Presentation – Wednesday, August 16th at 1:00 (in lieu of our STF Meeting)

Action:

  • Send CEC flyer to STF (SM=done)

 

#7  Energy Updates: solar, LEDs + Energy Master Plan (EMP)/Decarbonization Plan

  • EMP Review with Peter DeMenocal scheduled for Thursday, Aug 17th at Noon
  • EV Chargers review – need to expand/cost discussion. Also, EVs only for commuters – it’s

getting competitive! Adding EV chargers to Clark Front and possibly School St Lob (49 School St)-Waiting

for MassEVIP application response

  • Solar: David Center rooftop (QRF)- solar contract signed. Installation starts June 2023- delays with MassDPU + Eversource permitting. *Update – looks like we need to install arrays less than 25kw to address the DPU holdup with larger installations.
  • NQSF rooftop (on hold – may go with <25kw system) – contract signed. Installation starts June 2023
  • QRF – David Center (on hold – may go with <25kw system) – Revision visiting April 12th, Permit applications have been signed

Action:

  • Request proposals from Revision for systems <25kw (SM)

 

#8 New Business      - 

Invasive Plants identified on WHOI’s campuses. Pam Polloni worked with Alex, Seb and Alan to remove

observed invasives near USGS including bittersweet, porcelain berry, black swallowwort . Thank you!!

Action:

  • Think about creating a working group to remove invasives (AK+PP)
  • Schedule an invasive removal event and assess success (AK)

           

Student Garden plot at Oyster Pond – Alan shared that students at Oyster Pond are very interested in starting and maintaining a garden plot at the Oyster Pond Dorms.

Action:

Create an Oyster Pond Garden Group, meet, and assess interest and participation (AG)
