Silver Bicycle Friendly Business Award

In 2017, the League of American Bicyclists recognized the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) with a Silver Bicycle Friendly Business award to acknowledge efforts by the Institution that promote cycling to help ease traffic congestion, reduce greenhouse gas and pollution emissions, and encourage a healthy lifestyle among its employees.

If you would like to help with WHOI's Biking Program, please email

WHOI Bike Loaner Program

Bikes are available to WHOI Guest Students and Investigators for a nominal fee between April 15 and November 1 on a first-come-first-served basis.

Secure Bike Storage

We now have three protected storage locations for cyclists to store their bikes: Swift Barn behind Redfield, Carriage House Basement, and a modified storage container behind Clark South (You can't miss it--it's green). All storage spaces have push-button exterior locks and bike racks, but you must supply your own bike lock. Space will be available on a first-come-first-served basis, and is intended for daily bike commuters, not long term storage. If you are interested in gaining access, please contact John Richerson.

Bicycle friendly buisness
WHOI is proud to be recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists.
