Friend Raiser at Grumpy's Pub - this is not a Whoi event, but will be fun and social!

Join T3C and local band Puffy Elvis for a fun Friday evening! Mingle with friends and unwind for the weekend as you enjoy great live music, Grumpy's beverages and Anejo food available. ($5 cover; food & drink additional.)

#2  Guest Speakers - 

  • Wendi Buesseler – Oyster Pond Environmental Trust (OPET)- Friday, March 24 at 12:00 Carriage House:  The organization is conserving and maintaining 22 acres of ex-Whoi land in environmental trust
  • Composting at Home – Anne-Marie Runfola- date tbd
  • We’d like to show the movie Tapped at Redfield during an evening. Discussion ensued about wanting to invite panel to followup …perhaps Falmouth Water Treatment Plant manager?

Action:

  • Post flyers + Advertise on Headlines (SM – Done)
  • Review Tapped, pick date for showing, and invite panelists from water treatment plant + Silent Spring Institute (Holly Wilson)

 

#3  Bike Path Cleanup with Steamship Authority Wednesday, March 29th at Noon – rain/snow date April 12th.

Action:

  • Post flyers + Advertise on Headlines (SM – Done)

 

#4 Bike Update – Lots going on with Bikes!  New racks going in next to Redfield (funded by Town + Whoi)

  • Bike Committee met March 8 – see notes attached.
  • Bike Friendly Business status for Whoi – applying for status (due in June?) - $500 fee (lasts 4 years)
  • Loaner program commences April 15th (need helmets and locks)
  • Bike storage – basement Carriage House – it’s moving forward

Action:

  • Send Bike Action Items + Updates to group (SM – Done)

 

#5  Cardboard Recycling at Whoi –

  • Large magnets have arrived  (for dumpsters)
  • Cardboard recycling dumpsters located CRL + Losos + Distribution
  • Single Stream Dumpsters at Iselin Dock and Blake

Action:

  • Apply magnetic signs to Cardboard Dumpster (SM – Done, Losos + CRL)

 

#6  Building Reps – schedule the following building walk throughs with reps:

  • Fenno – Colin Reed (finish walk-through)- meeting March 23rd at 2:00 (SM, DD + CR)
  • Shiverick – Danie KinKade (snowed out…reschedule)
  • Clark 2nd Fl wing- Kim Deisher
  • Nobska House- Patty Mahoney

Action:

  • Reschedule Danie – we were snowed out
  • Add Jeane Hand for Rep at Losos – schedule walk through (SM, DD + JH)
  • Add Holly Wilson for Rep at Exhibit Center – schedule walk through (SM, DD + HW)

 

#7 MassSustainability Communities Conference:  March 17, 2017

  • Steph, Seb + Alex B. registered. Fee is $45.00 (carpool)  It was AMAZING!

Action:

  • Seb and I can share conference take aways at next STF Meeting

 

#8    March For Science (April 22)–  We shared thoughts in terms of should we march as a WHOI group or as individuals.  Thoughts varied and we decided to book a “community” bus not “Whoi” bus.

#9  New Business

  •  Valerie explained that composting in the dorms was unsuccessful last year and attracted rodents because students didn’t maintain it well. She reports that composting are not allowed in the dorms this year.
  • Swap Shop – we ran out of time, but it will be added to next month’s agenda
