#1.  WSS  (WHOI Social Sustainability) – the following WSS events were discussed:

  • Beach Botany Walk with Pam Polloni – Thursday, Sept. 9th at 12:15 (Meet at tennis court)
  • Possible Bike Ride tour with Scott Lindell
  • Newcomers Trivia Night via Zoom + Activity/Committee Fair
  • Plan additional hikes and lunch and learns (need volunteers to lead hikes!)

Action:

  • schedule Bike Ride tour with Scott Lindell (date + time TBD)

#2  Beach Clean-up Shore Lab - Monthly – We need Volunteers to join the leaders! STF is partnering with T3C + WHOI neighbors to clean up the beach on the first Thursday of each month at noon. Meet at Gate by Shore Lab. Leaders and team sponsors for Beach Cleanups include:

  • Sept 2, Thursday – Committee of Diversity, Equity + Inclusion are sponsors
  • Oct 7, Thursday – WHOI’s Communications (Comms) Team are sponsors
  • Nov 4, Thursday – Accounting Dept (Bethany will confirm)

 Action:

  • Recruit members from CDEI for Beach Cleanup (SM + all)
  • Make flyer for CDEI + Comms sponsored cleanups (Helen)
  • Confirm that WHOI’s Accounting Dept will sponsor the Nov 4 Beach Cleanup (Bethany)

 

#3  Tiny Home Tour – with Davis Tiny Homes https://davistinyhomes.com/

  • Tour scheduled for Thursday, August 26th from 4:00-6:00pm
  • Affordable living discussion

Action:

  • Send out flyer to STF (SM- done)

 

#4  Upcycling in Dorms with Grad Student help – Iulia Streanga + Michael Dotzel

The JP Students, Facilities + APO Housing are organizing a type of Free-Shop for the WHOI student community at key dates in the academic year (for example, first and second semester move-in dates), during which incoming students (and maybe also students already based at WHOI) can come and choose items left behind by students who move out of Oyster Pond and other WHOI accommodation.  Surplus items will be donated to ReStore and the Fal Hospital Thrift Store.

  • FreeShop will be held Sept. 11 (11:00 am) at Oyster Pond Dorm D

Action:

  • Create donation bins with signage in front of Dorm D (SM- done)
  • Create flyers to advertise the Free Shop Event (HH + Iulia)
  • Check on funding for breakfast snacks (Tatiana)

 

#5   WHOI’s Your Buddy Program update –The goal is to create a more diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment at WHOI. Check out the Workplace Climate Committees website for more info

Update – We received $600 donation from the New England Endurance Events (aka Falmouth Triathlon) to purchase 3 new used bikes ($200/each)
