#1. Beekeeping Grant – Thanks to our Beekeeping Working Group led by Danie Kinkade, Karen Soenen, Bethany Fowler + Ellen Bailey, for their hard work in securing a $1,817.38 donation from the Woods Hole Foundation! Congratulations Bee Team!! And big THANK YOU to the Woods Hole Foundation!

#2 WSS  (WHOI Social Sustainability) - Wellness and Inclusion are emerging as big needs right now at WHOI! Please help:

Hikes:

  • Walk-Meet Loop Maps- How long does it take to walk around Ring Road? Can you walk and hold a meeting at the same time? We have several maps created (thank you Karen S. and Sarah Y. for creating some). We brainstormed names for the program and Meet on Your Feet seems to be the winner!
  • T3C Saturday Hikes continue through May – Lauren Dykman is organizing these. JP Students get first dibs then it opens up to all. Sign up here: https://signup.com/go/aLiSFbg

#3  Beach Clean-up Shore Lab - Monthly – We need Volunteers to join the leaders! STF is partnering with T3C + WHOI neighbors to clean up the beach on the first Thursday of each month at noon. Meet at Gate by Shore Lab. The cleanups have been well attended and new employees have met new friends! It’s a beautiful way to spend 30 minutes of your day.

Leaders for Beach Cleanups include:

  • May 6, Thursday – Pam Polloni + Stephanie Madsen
  • June 3, Thursday – Stephanie Madsen
  • July 1, Thursday – tbd Featuring guest plastic science presenter – Chris Reddy and team!!
  • August 5, Thursday – tbd (possibly Women’s Committee or GLOW sponsored)

 Action:

  • Reach out to Committees and ask if they would sponsor/recruit for a cleanup (GLOW and Women’s Committee are interested) SM
  • Add Splash note to the beach cleanup flyer for July (HH)

 

#4  Tennis Ball Recycling – Helen Harding is looking into creating a program here at WHOI

 #5 Solar Update – Meteor House solar (11 kw) will be installed in the next few months! Thank you Peter DM for contributing to the installation costs!

Clark South (61 kw)  + Clark Solar (31 kw)Update – Now operational and real-time solar generation data is available on our website.

  • Revision video featuring WHOI solar! Revision Energy plans to create a 60 second solar video featuring drone footage of our 4 solar installations (Fye, McLean, Clark, and Clark South). We’ll post the video to our STF website once it’s complete.
    • The film crew arrives Wednesday, June 2.
  • Residential: Community Shared Solar available (aka Residential Off-site Solar). A new solar installation in Plymouth is looking for residential customers. Expect to save 15% of your utility supply bill. If you rent a home, have an old roof, and/or can’t install solar on your rooftop, consider purchasing off-site solar through Cape + Islands Self-Reliance. #6   LED light installation update – 6 buildings completed bringing in $380,000 rebate dollars.

  • Blake, Clark South, Losos, McLean, Bigelow, Smith (completed Jan-June 2021)
  • More rebates are available from Cape Light Compact, thus Wicked Watts is auditing a few more buildings…

Action:

  • List the new building upgrades and rebate values (SM)

 

#7   WHOI’s Your Buddy Program update –The goal is to create a more diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment at WHOI. Check out the Workplace Climate Committees website for more info https://web.whoi.edu/wcc/whois-your-buddy-program/

We need Buddies to make the program successful!!!  The program won’t work unless we get at least 20, so please post your profile.

#8   STF Garden Plot in the Village – We need a few more volunteers to help water the STF Garden Plot. Please email Seb Bigorre sbigorre@whoi.edu and Steph Madsen smadsen@whoi.edu if you’d like to help out at the STF garden this Spring + Summer.

 

#9   New Business    -  Pollinator Garden by Village Garden Plots

Action:

  • We need someone to design the plant ID sign – please let Steph know if you are interested

  • Add new solar installations to STF website – Clark(31.1 kw DC and Clark So (61.5 kw DC)
