WHOI President’s statement in wake of Jan 6 attack on the Capitol

Dear WHOI Community,

This afternoon I watched, as many of you did as well, the deeply troubling footage of our nation’s Capitol Building under siege. Regardless of your political views, these actions are a fundamental challenge to our democracy and the rule of law. We hope and pray that calm will return to our nation’s capital, and this storied and resilient democracy will not only prevail but thrive.

Here at home, I understand these events compound a mounting anxiety that has accumulated for all of us over the past year. Now more than ever is a time to affirm our sense of community, reach out, and support each other. Make a call, go for a walk, get some air, hang in there—we’ll get through this together.
