On Thursday, July 20, 2017, we held a productive meeting in the JP student lounge to discuss some of the ideas and projects BIG has in their pipeline. We would love to have you join in and help! Below are a few of the projects that could use more hands:

 

 

  • Blog Managers/Editors: 
    • Hanny Rivera, Joleen Heiderich, Hannah Mark, Lizzie Wallace
    • Responsibilities: Edit and suggest content for the BIG blog, write posts when necessary, encourage people to sign up
  • Social Media/Twitter manager: 
    • Lead needed!
    • Responsibilities: Manage BIG’s twitter account, create other social media accts as desired
  • Education Liaisons: 
    • Megan May, Jennifer Kenyon, Casey Zakroff (Wampanoag Tribe) 
    • Responsibilities: Develop and coordinate partnerships with local schools, help organize and curate our education resources page
  • Video Communication Series 
    • Casey Zakroff 
    • Casey would love to get a short “Ocean Update” video series going where JP students create short (few minute) videos on timely ocean topics. Videos can be produced in the Falmouth Community Television Station, broadcast locally as well as uploaded online. 
  • Resources Editors: 
    • Hanny Rivera, Megan May 
    • Responsibilities: We would like our new website to contain up to date resources on a variety of topics (e.g. communications, policy, fellowships, etc). Help us build this up. Regularly check links and update lists as needed. 
  • Pint of Science 
    • Lead needed!
    • Responsibilities: Help establish a Pint of Science chapter in Woods Hole. This person will work with Stephanie Madsen (WHOI Sustainability Task Force) to get this off the ground. 
  • Career Panel Planning Team 
    • Hanny Rivera, Erin Black 
    • Not sure if you want to stay in the academic route after JP? Help us plan alternative careers (e.g. policy, consulting, industry, teaching, journalism, anything else you’re interested in) panel.
