WCC Pulse Survey Dashboard

The Workplace Climate Committee (WCC) is charged with regularly assessing workplace climate at WHOI and providing leadership on the development and implementation of efforts to continuously improve the workplace climate.  In the past, this has included the 2016 Workplace Climate Survey conducted with the assistance of Rankin & Associates.  In 2021-2022, an Institutional assessment was conducted by Ogletree Deakins.  While the WCC will continue to conduct regular (approximately every five years) large climate surveys, we feel that it is important to add smaller, more frequent surveys to better keep our finger on the pulse of the Institution.

To that end, the WCC began conducting periodic pulse surveys in 2023.  These are short, anonymous surveys to solicit regular feedback from all WHOI employees, post-docs, and students.  Composite category results, and summarized common responses are posted on this WCC Pulse Survey Dashboard.  A more detailed summary of areas to address will be compiled by the WCC co-chairs and provided to Staff Council regularly.   We are striving towards transparency, while protecting the anonymity of responses.  This is a work in progress – the questions and how the results are reported may evolve over time.  In May 2023, an employee Net Promoter Score (NPS) question was added.  NPS is a standard metric that can be used to measure employee satisfaction across different institutions, and which has been the subject of on-going research.

The results of these monthly surveys are maintained by the WCC and used to help develop and maintain a positive workplace climate at WHOI where everyone feels respected, included and valued.

This pulse survey is one mechanism by which WHOI employees, students and postdocs can provide feedback.  Others mechanisms include:
