Room Naming Working Group
The Room Naming Working Group is charged with honoring the important contributions of people of under-represented races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and abilities at WHOI. This Working Group is composed of members of the Women’s Committee, Committee on Diversity and Inclusion, Workplace Climate Committee, International Committee, and Development, and will facilitate the naming of 10 conference rooms used by both academic and non-academic departments over the next 5 years.
The first room named in this initiative is the Fenno Conference Room, newly dedicated to Dr. Mary Sears, Commander USNR (Ret.), who is recognized with a new plaque, biography, and portraits prominently displayed in the room. There is also a QR code in the room linking to our Working Group website, which hosts a biography and more pictures of Dr. Sears. Moving forward, any member of the WHOI community or alumni can nominate candidates, with follow up voting procedures moderated by the Working Group.
We invite you to submit names for consideration through the webform linked below, and encourage you to use this effort to highlight the contributions of outstanding personalities in marine science, engineering, administration, and related fields.
