Amilcar Cabral Centennial Conference (Oct. 25–26)
“Tell no lies, claim no easy victories” was the motto of pan-Africanist freedom fighter and agronomist Amilcar Cabral, who in the 1970s led independence movements in his native Guinea-Bissau (then Portuguese Guinea) and the Cape Verde Islands (where his parents were from).
Join Bridgewater State University’s Pedro Pires Institute for Cape Verdean Studies and the Cape Cod Cape Verdean Museum & Cultural Center in celebrating Cabral’s 100th birthday at a conference in Hyannis this weekend! The conference will take place on October 25 from 5–10pm and on October 26 from 9–5pm at the former Cape Codder, now Margaritaville Resort (287 Iyannough Rd, Hyannis).
Speakers include Angela Coutinho, a researcher at Nova University, Lisbon, and Abel Djassi Amado, an associate professor of politics at Simmons University.
Entry is $100, which includes light refreshments on Friday evening, and breakfast and lunch buffet on Saturday. Get your tickets here.
