Bell House Conference Room
In attendance: Fay Cali, Kim Grodzki, Beth Ryan
We need to find out from Dina the amount left (if any) in our budget. If there is some money, Fay suggested purchasing either an oversized chair or futon for the Redfield ladies’ room. The sofa currently in that area is very old and worn. Fay estimates this will cost approximately $150-$200. Beth also suggested adding a basket with wipes, etc. to the room.
New Committee Members
This year we will have two members rotating off the committee. Both Fay and Dina Pandya have fulfilled their two year terms. Therefore, we will need to fill their vacancies with two new members, in addition to a Post-doc representative who will be appointed to the committee. Fay will speak with Christine Charette about that position. We will begin advertising in Headlines for nominees in mid-August requesting that people e-mail their names for inclusion on the ballot. This should last two weeks. Only women and female graduate students are able to vote and each person is only allowed to vote once. We will ask Dina to set up a Survey Monkey survey which can be sent to all women at the Institution. The survey should be sent out after Labor Day and voting will end September 16th following the wine and cheese social (details below).
Wine & Cheese Social
In lieu of having a fall coffee hour, the idea is to host a wine and cheese social. This will allow us to use up all the wine and beverages from past events, while promoting the Women’s Committee. It was suggested that having the social behind Redfield on the grassy area near the water would be very nice, with the Redfield lobby as a back-up in case of inclement weather. The tentative date will be Friday, September 16th from 4:00-6:00. Beth will check on reserving both locations. The only expenses for this event would be ice, cheese and crackers. This event will also allow us to promote voting for the new Women’s Committee members. We will bring a laptop to the social and have the survey available for women to vote if they had not previously done so.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, August 17th at 9:30 in the Marine Operations conference room.
