The hadal lander deployed by Alan Jamieson and Thomas Linley from the University of Aberdeen provides a rare glimpse at a few of the animals that live in total darkness on the deep seafloor. Their bait attracts scavengers—here mostly basketwork and snubnose eels—as well as any other deep-sea creatures that happen by while the cameras are on.
