Logistics

Following is logistical information to start your planning for the Mineral-Hosted Melt Inclusion Workshop here in Woods Hole from Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 12, 2018.  Please note that traveling by bus or car to Cape Cod on a Friday can be affected by heavy traffic.  You may want to consider arriving on Thursday, August 9th or early in the day on August 10th.

Symposium plenary sessions and presentations will take place in Clark Lab 507 and poster sessions in the lobby of Clark Lab (Woods Hole Road, WHOI’s Quissett Campus). There will be shuttle transport available for participants between certain hotels (see below), and WHOI's Quissett Campus.

Air Travel

The two airports nearest to Woods Hole are Boston Logan Airport (BOS) and Providence T.F. Green Airport (PVD). Both airports are just under 80 miles from Woods Hole, and both offer bus service (Peter Pan Bus Lines) to Falmouth and Woods Hole. Please check bus schedules ahead of time to make sure your flight does not arrive too late to catch the last bus.

Ground Transportation

Peter Pan/Bonanza Bus Service to Falmouth/Woods Hole is available from both airports.  On Peter Pan’s web site put in Boston Logan Airport or T.F. Green Airport and then Falmouth or Woods Hole get the correct schedules. Please note that bus trip from T.F Green will take more time and is not as convenient as buses from Boston’s Logan Airport.  At Boston’s Logan Airport, Peter Pan buses leave directly for Falmouth and Woods Hole, taking about 1.5 – 2 hours.  The bus stop for “scheduled buses” can be found right outside each terminal (exit ground floor of the baggage claim area) at Boston Logan Airport.  As there are not many buses running these routes, it’s best to try and coordinate your flight arrival time close to the bus departure time.

Hotel Information

A Woods Hole neighbor institution, Sea Education Association (SEA), have room availability in several cottages on their nearby campus that weekend.  In addition, several hotels in the area have agreed to block rooms for our meeting at negotiated rates and are outlined below.  Housing costs on Cape Cod this time of year are very high, so act fast please, as we anticipate the SEA rooms to go quickly.

Shuttle bus transportation will be provided between the Sea Education Association campus housing, these three (3) hotels below and the symposium venue.  The pick-up and drop-off schedule for this transport will be determined after we see how many people have reserved rooms at SEA and the various hotels, and which route is the most practical to follow at the time.

Sea Education Association (SEA) Campus Housing

Three (3) cottages are available that can house up to 12 workshop attendees each.  Each cottage has four (4) bedrooms containing three (3) standard size twin beds.  There is an adjacent common and cooking area.  Bed linens and towels are not provided, so you would have to bring your own.  An excellent location, this housing option would be similar to hostel or dormitory housing.

The rooms are only available from Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 12th.  Cost per person is $30/night.  For reservations please contact Andrew Daly, adaly@whoi.edu, or (508) 289-2852.
