OCB2022 will have a variety of early career-focused activities and interaction options leading up to and during the workshop.
Mentoring program - This year, we aim to use OCB2022 as a platform to initiate mentoring relationships. Using the information you provided during registration, we have paired you with a mentor if you requested one (you should've received an email introduction to your mentor ~May 20-21). Please try to meet with your mentor before, during, and continue beyond OCB2022 if it's a good match! Breaks, meals, posters, and informal free time at OCB workshops provide great opportunities to talk with your mentor and meet their colleagues. We hope to build this into a sustained OCB network activity in collaboration with the North American Carbon Program (NACP) and the US Carbon Cycle Science Program to broaden the pool of mentors and mentees and offer opportunities for interactions across scientific disciplines and career paths.
June 19, 7:00-9:00 pm (Aquatic Brewing, 661 Main St., Falmouth) - Early Career mixer for students and postdocs to kick off OCB2022 and mingle with OCB Scientific Steering Committee members – Enjoy beverages (incl. beer, seltzer, soft drinks, etc.), pizza (vegan and gluten free options will be available), and ocean trivia!
June 20 - Networking Lunch to help you connect to new people across the meeting with assigned tables for open conversations.
June 21 (afternoon) - Reception with agency program managers for students and postdocs - an opportunity to mingle with agency managers to learn more about ocean science funding opportunities
