The MarChemSpec models were launched with a hands on hybrid tutorial at OCB2023 (June 15 + June 16, 2023). Recordings, materials, and more information are available below.
These easy-to-use models are for the calculation of:
• Acid-base equilibria, seawater state parameters, and CaCO3 saturation in natural waters containing the ions of seawater
• Inorganic complexation of trace metals Al, Cd, Co, Cu(II), Fe(II), Fe(III), Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn
in natural waters
Access the software HERE (Mac, PC, and Linux versions) and all of the manuals HERE, and the tutorial recordings below.

ABOUT
The natural waters of the world do not only consist of seawater of varying salinity. It is important to be able to estimate the influence of changing natural water composition on equilibria and to understand the effects of anthropogenic changes in a range of environments. These models help us to do that. The models are first being made available at the OCB Summer Workshop as standalone programs and also procedures that can be called in a simple way from Matlab and Python. This is the beginning of a series of software releases and further model developments. The initial release of software is for computers running Windows, Linux, and macOS (Arm-based.
Simon Clegg and David Turner (of SCOR Working Group 145, and now the Chemical Speciation Task Group of the Joint Committee on the Properties of Seawater) gave presentations and demonstrations at the launch event.
