


{"id":995,"date":"2019-08-12T22:53:33","date_gmt":"2019-08-13T02:53:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.whoi.edu\/sustainability\/?page_id=995"},"modified":"2019-08-12T22:55:56","modified_gmt":"2019-08-13T02:55:56","slug":"june-19-2019","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.whoi.edu\/sustainability\/meetings-activities\/meeting-minutes\/june-19-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"June 19, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n\t<h1>June 19, 2019<\/h1>\r\n<p><strong>Attendance: Sarah Fuller, Tayler Heyl, Sebastien Bigorre, Stephanie Madsen<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>#1\u00a0 Activities Fair \u2013 Thursday, July 11 from 11-1 in Clark 507 And Thursday, July 18- Discovery Center from 4:00-6:00pm\u00a0 <\/strong>The goal of the Activities Fair is to encourage a sense of community pride and cohesiveness by providing a showcase of current activities and resources that contribute to a positive environment at WHOI for the broad spectrum of WHOI\u2019s culture.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s committee or advisory work, a task force, or a group focused on artistic expression, social justice, environmental concern, or mind-body-spiritual fitness, the activity fair will help WHOI employees connect to your groups to enable a stronger WHOI culture.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Action:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Create Activities Fair flyer (HH \u2013 done \u2013 thanks Helen!)<\/li>\r\n<li>email the 10 Groups who RSVPed for the Activity Fair + recommend how to order poster from <a href=\"mailto:Creative@whoi.edu\">Creative@whoi.edu<\/a>(SM-done)<\/li>\r\n<li>post flyers (All)<\/li>\r\n<li>encourage friends and colleagues to attend (All)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>#2\u00a0\u00a0 WSS Events <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Lawn Games \u2013 Friday, July 12 from 5-7pm Village Lawn above Garden Plots<\/li>\r\n<li>Music on the Hillside (across from Pie n Sky)- Thursday, Aug 8 5-7pm. The Rowan Brothers will be playing live music. Bring a picnic and invite friends. It is open to the Community as well.<\/li>\r\n<li>Water kiosk ribbon cutting \u2013 Waterfront Park (date TBD)<\/li>\r\n<li>Partnership suggested with Jeff Kaeli (orienteering) and outside WHOI people \u2013 ex. Christin Marshall<\/li>\r\n<li>Spring Bike Ride- on a Friday \u2013 need to pick one<\/li>\r\n<li>Movies on Lawn? People are interested in bringing this back<\/li>\r\n<li>Yoga on the Beach \u2013 Wednesdays at Chappy (past Bowerman\u2019s Beach) in West Falmouth at 6:30pm<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Action:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Create Lawn Games flyer (SM- done)<\/li>\r\n<li>Create Music on Hillside Flyer (SM)- organize volunteers (SM)<\/li>\r\n<li>Attend and bring friends (All)<\/li>\r\n<li>Email Colin about Movies on Lawn (SM)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>#3 \u00a0\u00a0Garden Plot behind Challenger \u2013 <\/strong>The Sustainability Task Force was offered Garden Plot #3 in the Village Garden, it\u2019s official!!\u00a0 Sebastien Bigorre will be the garden leader so please email him and sign the waiver.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Action:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Email <a href=\"mailto:Sbiggore@whoi.edu\">Sbiggore@whoi.edu<\/a>if you are interested in being on the Garden Team<\/li>\r\n<li>Sign garden waiver if you plan to work on the site<\/li>\r\n<li>Consider contributing plants\/flowers to the garden (All)<\/li>\r\n<li>Attend July 10 garden meeting at noon and set up watering schedule<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>#4 WHOI Book Club proposal- <\/strong>people are interested but consensus is that summer is too busy. Perhaps offer it in the winter. We are proposing Blue Mind by Wallace J Nichols<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>#5\u00a0Energy Efficiency at WHOI \u2013 what to tackle next\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>The Group had a nice list of things to address at WHOI:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>More solar panels (didn\u2019t make it on 2020 budget unfortunately)<\/li>\r\n<li>Hot water filters on Poland Springs water dispensers (do people need the hot water? Answer was varied<\/li>\r\n<li>Windows in Clark need overhaul \u2013 not sealed and leak air<\/li>\r\n<li>Building Representative program needs to continue and include other buildings besides the 8 already enrolled<\/li>\r\n<li>New Printers being installed by IS in the near future \u2013 are they energy star?<\/li>\r\n<li>Solar workshop \u2013 expand scope \u2013 the first workshop was super successful<\/li>\r\n<li>Green Tips on Headlines Newsletter \u2013 need STF members to contribute<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Action:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Follow up with Scott Cramer in IS about new printers (SM)<\/li>\r\n<li>Share Headlines sheet on Google Drive with Seb + Sarah Fuller (they\u2019d like to start adding green tips periodically)<\/li>\r\n<li>Meet with Development about Solar Panel Donation avenue- slide already created by our energy consultants CES (SM)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>\u00a0#6 Bee Hive installation at Quissett- garnering interest for potential installation for 2020<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>will schedule lunch n learn with Josh Leveque who manages hives at Falmouth Academy in the fall<\/li>\r\n<li>We\u2019ll need a Bee Group at WHOI to manage the Bee Project. Please let me know if you are interested.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>Action:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Add Sarah Fuller to Bee Group list (SM-done)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>New Business:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Pollinator Garden <\/strong>\u2013 we secured funding from the Director to move forward with the Pollinator Garden installation in the Village. It will be adjacent to the WHOI Garden Plots.
