{"id":172,"date":"2018-08-20T15:07:35","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T19:07:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.whoi.edu\/sustainability\/?page_id=172"},"modified":"2018-08-20T15:08:47","modified_gmt":"2018-08-20T19:08:47","slug":"november-20-2013","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.whoi.edu\/sustainability\/meetings-activities\/meeting-minutes\/november-20-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"November 20, 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>\n\t\tNovember 20, 2013<br \/>\n\t<\/h1>\n<h3>STF meeting minutes: November 20th, 2013<\/h3>\n<p>1) Shut the Sash:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0200+ hoods at the institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Decision:<\/em>\u00a0order 250 &#8211; 300 stickers, based on how the ordering system breaks down.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Placement: should stickers be placed on the glass of the hood or on the metal side panel?<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Funds for design and ordering through Facilities, as this is where the financial benefit will be seen.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Different types of hoods: constant volume will not affected by closing the sash.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Decision:<\/em>\u00a0Specifically put stickers on all hoods that are not bypass hoods. Safety element still holds, but energy savings do not apply.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Stickers will be attached by facilities staff, not by inspector, due to differences in pay rate.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Text for sticker<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Decision:<\/em>\u00a0&#8220;Save energy. Save money. Be safe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Promotion: WHOI Headlines, departmental meetings, message to departmental chairs from facilities, targeted email to hood owners (listserv).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2) WHOI Headlines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Biweekly tips included in headlines. Julie will start these next week.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Will include website information<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Separate announcement for Shut the Sash program when it is rolling out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3) Lab inspections:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Should highlight what small actions can be taken to reduce energy use.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Verbal incorporation instead of paper list, though pdf checklist can be available on the website.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0When discussing with lab owner, phrase specifically: &#8220;What do you do to reduce energy use?&#8221; vs. &#8220;do you have practices in place to reduce energy use?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4) Online pledge system:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Pledge sheet for labs to sign to say that they are committed to reducing energy use in their lab.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Blind, or could ask when signing the pledge whether they want their lab to be identified as one that has signed the pledge (i.e., X labs at WHOI have signed the pledge, including Dr. Y, Dr. Z, etc).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5) Website:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Continuing to update and revamp.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Should include pdf of logo, shut the sash sticker, energy reduction checklist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 20, 2013 STF meeting minutes: November 20th, 2013 1) Shut the Sash: \u00a0200+ hoods at the institution.
