


{"id":160,"date":"2018-08-20T14:59:08","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T18:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.whoi.edu\/sustainability\/?page_id=160"},"modified":"2018-08-20T15:00:29","modified_gmt":"2018-08-20T19:00:29","slug":"may-21-2014","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.whoi.edu\/sustainability\/meetings-activities\/meeting-minutes\/may-21-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"May 21, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>\n\t\tMay 21, 2014<br \/>\n\t<\/h1>\n<p>\t<strong>1) Poster Feedback<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Very positive, seems to have sparked lots of thinking.<\/li>\n<li>Spurred some email conversations re: programmable thermostats, ability to monitor effects of Shut the Sash campaign, computer backups and powering down.<\/li>\n<li>Jonathan working on information on computer backups and powering down, specifically the differences in options and backup requirements for admin vs. sci vs. technical staff\/machines.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Move posters to other buildings next week, then monthly thereafter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2) Shut the Sash<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some posters seen on glass instead of on the posts?<\/li>\n<li>Dave: If a problem, let Facilities know; they will be moved and new ones placed on the post instead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>3) Green Lab Checklist integration<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Being integrated into lab inspections- Kallie\/Dina to talk to HR<\/li>\n<li>Julie to talk to incoming JP students re: STF and student-oriented green tips<\/li>\n<li>Valerie to add more housing-specific list to Housing binder<\/li>\n<li>Dan will include in incoming SSF safety training in early June<\/li>\n<li>Dan will talk with Ron about including some sustainability-related safety items in the online General Safety Training quiz.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4) Kallie &#8211; Intern<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Starts June 2, 24 h\/week<\/li>\n<li>Informal lunch for her during her first week<\/li>\n<li>Dave will send Jonathan the mechanical load vs. computer load statistics for the server room<\/li>\n<li>Research water units? No &#8211; let\u2019s stick with Atlas, the company that we already have units from in Redfield, Smith, and GeoSecs.<\/li>\n<li>For financial feasibility, need volume. $45\/month<\/li>\n<li>If a specific location is a good candidate, Facilities will cover piping costs for installation of system.<\/li>\n<li>Kallie: Speak with Procurement re: buildings\/building areas that spend &gt;$45\/month, where installing a unit may be a good, financially beneficial option.<\/li>\n<li>Fridge Catalogue: all over campus are plenty of fridges that may be completely empty.<\/li>\n<li>Research car charging stations: one company is particularly popular in the area &#8211; be sure that charging stations\/payment programs are consistent with what is already used in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5) STF Five-Year Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wait until after Kallie\u2019s internship, as her work will help identify priorities: those that are cheap, and those that are not cheap but worth the investment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>6) Covered Bike Racks<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Short Term<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bring your bike inside (not a solution, office space insufficient to hold a number of bikes, safety issue?).<\/li>\n<li>Nooks and crannies: there may be some areas around campus where we could install bike racks, or we could see if there is a small area inside a high bay to lock bikes.<\/li>\n<li>Walsh Cottage storage with GFD bikes (Village-only solution)?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Longer Term\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Shipping containers: Could install a shipping container on each campus (Clark South and Smith) with a rack inside each. Containers themselves would not be locked, but there would be something to lock bikes to inside.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>7) Idea of having a summer bike messenger instead of shipping, with a cargo bike?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Decrease transit between campuses for shipping\/mail delivery<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Bulk of packages may inhibit this, other duties performed by shipping\/receiving when traveling between.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 21, 2014 1) Poster Feedback Very positive, seems to have sparked lots of thinking.
