 #1 Alternatives to Single-use Plastic Pop up Dates: We discussed our advertising plan and added people to the volunteer list.

Please let me know if you’d like to help out on one of the days and whether you can stay one hour or two.  I have bins of cool alternative products, compostable items, and reusable cutlery. We asked Whoi Services to set up long tables to showcase our items.

We plan to offer these Alt Plastic Showcases again in May when more people are at WHOI.

Action:

  • Create flyer (MR)
  • Order chalkboard name tags (SM)
  • Update volunteer list for Alt Plastic Showcase (SM)
  • Schedule Pop Ups in May/June (tbd..at a future meeting)

#2  Sustainability Plan – Schedule date for working group meeting for early to mid February.

Action:

  • We’ll schedule the follow up Energy meeting after the ENGIE presentation

 #3  ENGIE presentation- with Caleb Benham is scheduled for Friday, Jan 31. Subcommittee members in Sustainability Plan are invited (invitation sent to those on the Energy Subcommittee) – we’ll debrief all of STF after the initial presentation.

Action:

  • Let Stephanie know if you would like to be on the subcommittee and plan to attend the Jan. 31 presentation

 #4  Composting at the Buttery – expand what we already do (aka veggie scraps behind the counter)

  • Steph + Molly K are meeting with Mary Ryther of Compost With Me on Jan 21st at 11:45 at the Buttery to discuss front-of-the-counter options, capacity + grant support

Action:

  • Lots of action items- Molly + Steph will work with Denise Barnett + Steve Senior
  • We plan to conduct experimental composting in the main dining room. Once launched, we’ll need STF volunteers to help guide people the first week. We can set up shifts (ALL)
  • Make trays with items attached + post above bins – apparently this works really well
  • Trial period is first week in Feb – we need volunteers to have lunch at the Buttery and guide people when composting (All- please contact Steph)

  • Electric Vehicles Green Driving Lunch n Learn – Anna Vanderspek from Green Energy Consumers Org (Thursday, Feb 13- Clark 507)
  • Beekeeping Meetings – setting up for summer installation (Nov 5 10-11 Bigelow 217)
  • Water kiosk ribbon cutting – Waterfront Park (date TBD)
  • Repair Café – schedule next one

Action:

  • Create flyer for EV Lunch n Learn – done (thanks Helen!)
  • Danie – reach out to Bee group to see if anyone has membership and qualifies for the discount. Costs look to be close to $800…not sure if we can budget this.
  • Set Repair Café date – (MM)
  • Schedule hikes – and Lauren did!! Tuesday Feb 11 and Tuesday March 17th Noon – 1:00pm (thanks Lauren!) Meet at tennis court on Quissett campus.
  • Make flyer for hikes and advertise all events on Headlines (SM)

 #6  New Business

  • Leaf blowing at WHOI – landscapers should consider mulching the leaves when the mow vs. blowing leaves after.
  • Add interpretive signs to native plants, trees etc on Quissett Campus
  • Consider Divesting from fossil fuel funds – WHOI and individuals
  • Departments and individuals encouraged to purchase reusable plates, cups and cutlery for parties and meetings – you can get them for free at the Landfill’s Swap Shop ‘Pick of the Litter’
