Following is logistical information from the 2023 workshop - which will be updated in spring 2024.
This year, the plenary sessions will take place in Redfield Auditorium (Water Street, Village campus) and poster sessions and smaller group activities will take place in Clark 5 (Woods Hole Road, Quissett Campus).
There will be a bus to transport participants between the Village and Quissett Campuses and from/to the hotels, and since there are viable mass transport options between the airport and Woods Hole, we discourage rental cars. Extra cars cause unnecessary congestion in WHOI campus!
We will be paying for your lodging (we pay these costs directly to the hotels) during the meeting. You are responsible for any additional nights.
We will also be covering your meals served at the meeting, which includes 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches, one evening reception with hors d’oeuvres, and the workshop dinner.
Air Travel
First, please do not make air travel reservations before checking the bus schedule as we don't want you stranded in Boston!
The two nearest airports (~80miles) are Boston Logan Airport (BOS) [recommended] and Providence T.F. Green Airport (PVD). Both airports offer bus service to Woods Hole.
From the Boston Logan Airport we recommend the Plymouth and Brockton (P&B) Bus Company to the Woods Hole or Falmouth station stop.
Hotel Information
Mary Zawoysky will make your hotel reservation based on your registration form answers. She will also keep the lodging lists for the hotels, so you should not call the hotels to make a reservation.
LAST MINUTE CHANGES: If you need to cancel the weekend prior to the start of the meeting, it is your responsibility to contact the hotel and Mary both to let them know to make sure the information is received.
Please call Mary at 508-289-2310 or mzawosky@whoi.edu if you have any questions.
We will have a shuttle bus circulating around the hotels to transport you to/from the meeting.
Lodging will be at the following hotels:
Holiday Inn Falmouth in Falmouth (508-540-2000)
Inn on the Square in Falmouth (508-457-0606)
Sands of Time Motor Inn in Woods Hole (508-548-6300)
A WHOI shuttle also regularly circulates around the WHOI buildings with a stop at Coffee Obsession in Woods Hole (within a short walk from the Sands of Time Motor Inn).
Ground Transportation and Ride Sharing
Ground transportation
The Plymouth&Brockton and Peter Pan buses depart from the Boston airport regularly, and have stops close to the Sands of Time Motor Inn (Woods Hole) and the Inn on the Square (Falmouth). Put in Boston Logan Airport and then Woods Hole or Falmouth on their web sites to get the correct schedule. The bus stop for “scheduled buses” can be found right outside each terminal at Boston Logan Airport. If you are staying at the Holiday Inn, you will require a taxi from the Falmouth bus station.
Falmouth Taxi at 508-548-3100 or All Seasons Taxi at 508-548-9990, or Uber. There are other methods to travel the ~90-minute trip from the airports to Woods Hole such as the GoGreen Shuttle, White Tie Limousine, Enterprise and National car rentals, and taxis. It is best to contact Mary Zawoysky at mzawoysky@whoi.edu to make those arrangements since she can get you our discount.
Ride sharing
If you are renting a car or need a ride to/from the airport and wish to coordinate with your colleagues, please add yourself to our Airport Ride Sharing Spreadsheet.
Visitor Information
About the Meeting Site
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is located in Woods Hole, MA. Woods Hole is approximately 75 miles south of Boston on Cape Cod. It is surrounded by the waters of Martha’s Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay and just a few miles south of Falmouth, which is typically New England (village green, Main Street and a Congregational Church with a bell cast by Paul Revere).
Restaurants
For meals on your own, there are 6 restaurants right in Woods Hole outside of the continental breakfasts, lunches, one reception and one supper we will provide at the meeting. The Inn on the Square and Holiday Inn also have their own restaurants, and downtown Falmouth has many restaurants as well. If you have questions about where to eat locally, please consult our Local Restaurant List or ask Heather, Mai or Mary.
