OCB continues to be in support of scientifically rigorous, well-controlled ocean fertilization experiments that comply with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imo.org\/en\/OurWork\/Environment\/LCLP\/Pages\/default.aspx\">international protocols for ocean dumping and marine pollution<\/a>. <!--more-->However, given the current lack of scientific consensus on the impacts of iron addition on marine food webs, OCB recommends that more research be conducted with a focus on food web dynamics and higher trophic level impacts before using ocean seeding as a means of restoring commercial fisheries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2012, OCB released\u00a0a position statement regarding its stance on commercially driven ocean fertilization\u00a0experiments that do not adhere to international protocols.
